The Ugly Truth

After growing up in the kitchen of his family's beloved Interlochen restaurant, The Hofbrau, Mogen opening up his own was the natural next step. The Hammered Heifer was born out of an opportunity to buy a small restaurant property, formerly roadside-stop and market style joints, and turn it into a full fledged restaurant. With the tireless help of every member of the Mcallister family, they got the Heifer up and running while juggling their two other staple Northern Michigan restaurants.

Complete with a full kitchen, bar and outdoor patio seating, The Heifer is a well-oiled machine of cooks recruited personally by Mogen and the family, serving up creative new takes on the now popularized smash burger concept. Beyond the burgers, Mogen wanted a menu that anyone could enjoy, with dishes inspired by his world travels like corn ribs, empanadas, and Korean-style chicken sandwiches. 

Once you bite into the burger, you understand how a life of early-morning cook prep and nights of endless tickets printing pays off, and Mogen wants everyone to enjoy it.
